PDG John is married to Lion Shirley, his wife of 53 years, and they have been blessed with 3 children & 5 “Grandies”.

Lion John is a retired Westpac Bank State Manager who also served 36 years concurrently in the Australian Army Reserve – including several postings in Defence Recruiting.

A long-time resident of North Queensland, PDG John has been a Lion for 33 years and was District Governor of Lions District 201Q2 in 2009-10. As District Governor he led his District out of transition with 4 New Clubs Chartered (he was “hands on” with all 4 clubs) and a net Membership Growth of 134 in his year.

An experienced Lion, he has served in many Club and Cabinet Portfolios. He served as an LCI accredited New Club Consultant for 6 years and has conducted numerous New Club Workshops across Australia resulting in the Charter of 16 new clubs. He is currently a member of Australian Lionsonoz Lions Club.

He served as GMT Area Leader MD201 for 4 years from July 2012, Global Membership Team Constitutional Area 7 Leader in 2016-17, Global Service Team Area Leader MD201 2017-2019, and is currently the MD201 Global Action Team – Service National Coordinator.

John was recognised for service to his local community as Citizen of The Year, has received numerous Lions Awards including 100% District Governor’s Award, 6 International Presidential Medals, 4 International Leadership Medals, is a Key Member having personally sponsored 93 new Lions, and is a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. He is a Life Member of Lions, and in 1985 was awarded the Medal Of The Order Of Australia (OAM) for his services to the military.

John and Shirley have attended 13 International Conventions. John has also been a presenter at 8 ANZI Pacific Forums, and was the Program and Forums Coordinator for the Cairns ANZI Forum in September 2022. He is the Parade Chairperson for the Lions International Convention in Melbourne in 2024.
